Seven Sundays

Mystic Colors
In the small bario of Pinagmungajan a town called Campo, there lived a Corn farmer,
Mang Timo. Mang Timo has been raising his beautiful daughter, Marcelina. Ever since his wife died after giving birth, Mang Timo has been raising Marcelina on his own. This story will talk about the local color and identifying it.
"Tabi! Tabi!" or "Tabi-Tabi po" Mang Timo said. In this case, it talks about Mannerism.
"Tabi-Tabi po" is a saying or a way to excuse yourself when entering or passing by an unknown place. Usually, the saying goes as there might be "Engkantos" or spirits living there. This could also be a Social-Custom as it has been passed and taught through generations.
Putat is referred to as the home of the Engkantos. The Carabao in which Mang Timo
was working with to plow the fields to plant corn. Both of these sentences are in the form of Dialect, as Putat and Carabao are a dialect in the Philippines. Tatay which Marcelina calls his father, and a way to call your father in the Philippines, is also a dialect.
A Kubo , in which Marcelina and Mang Timo lived at. A Kubo
is usually a home to many farmers in the Philippines. And resolving it as an Object of Local Color. The Bahay Kubo has been an icon to the Philippine culture and has been around since old times. The materials used in a Bahay Kubo are of bamboo, wood, or even coconut trees, making it a cheap way to build a house in the countryside.
In conclusion, the story "Mystique of Campo: Timo, Guardian of that Putat" has a lot of
references, in which many can identify the different kinds of Local Colors. Throughout the story, the many mystical and unbelievable parts are a way to let the reader know and discover such things that are a usual thing to use or to say in the Philippines and is also a way to fascinate them.

Personal Essay
Traveling. Traveling is something I’ve experienced many times in my life. Going around places I’ve never seen before was exciting, seeing fascinating sceneries here and there. Though in life there are things that change through time, things that I hold deeply in my heart and memories. Surely as time also changes I too, needed to accept the things in life.
2019, the day I turned 10. Things gradually changed, my sister graduating from elementary, and it was also my birthday. As the month of March passed, the coming of April was near. We started packing our things such as; clothes, my old toys, and necessary things. The last few days were remaining, as I spent them playing with my neighbors and my childhood friend. Days passed and my oldest brother and my Ate Niña arrived, as they would come with us along the journey to navigate the road and passings. And just as I thought, the day would come as expectedly.
April 12, early in the morning around 4am. Everything was packed, and was put inside the car. Even before the sun had risen, we left. Everything was compact inside the car, as the car we had owned was a small one. It was so compact that it was full of bags and storage boxes. My brother and my Ate Niña were in the front seats, as were me, my sister and my mother were in the back seats, some bags were also with us in the back seats. We could barely even stretch out our legs. As we took the NLEX free way to Manila, I slowly drifted to sleep as the sun was slowly rising through the horizons.
Quickly as I woke up, the sun had already risen. As I hazeley looked outside through the window, we stopped by the gas station. And I wondered why? But it seems like as I properly looked, there were restaurants and fast foods that were open in the morning. I asked my mom why we stopped by there, and it turns out we were there for breakfast. As I got out of the car, the cold morning breeze that I felt woke me up. After the Mcdonalds breakfast, we took the SLEX route to Laguna. We passed by some municipality of CALABARZON, some roads were bumpy, and some were steep and high, the hills as we went up and down the slopes, while the steep roads were zig-zaggy in their features. Night was approaching as the sun went down, and we finally reached Bicol.
For dinner we had Jollibee somewhere in Bicol. As we finished eating there was a small grocery, we bought some food and drinks to keep us full during the drive. As we left the place we took a road leading to a port, while on the road, the night breeze was cool as we rolled down the windows. Enjoying the countryside breeze was breather, the fields envelope by the darkness of the night. By the time we arrived at the port the departing time of the ship was 12am, it seems like we arrived a bit early. While waiting, there were other people who were waiting for the ship to arrive. As the departing time had come, the vehicles were allowed to come in the carrier ship. The other parts of the ship were seats and a small cafeteria, as the ship was bound from Bicol to Masbate, the ride was long, so we ordered some cup noodles to keep us warm as the night was cold, as well the air conditioning inside too. I got a bit sleepy and intentionally went to sleep, by the time it was morning we arrived at a port in Masbate, as Masbate being a place where my Grandma was from, my mom had friends there.
The sun was up and we were exiting the port, by the exit there were locals selling sweets and other foods that were only made there. We bought some candy that was kinda like pastillas? But it was yummy anyways! Then we would eat breakfast at a nearby Mcdonalds, and there we met my mom’s friend, as a shy person that I am, I just sat there and was quiet. After that we drove to that other side of the island to the next port. The breeze was cool as we drove by the seaside beaches, the morning sun was hot though. By the time we arrived it was already noon, the expected time to arrive in Bogo, Cebu was 5 hours. Inside the ship was the same but it wasn't air conditioned like the other one, the ship also had double decker beds and a cafeteria too. In the midst of the journey by the sea were fishes swimming by the ship, and some birds too. As I saw the land nearing the sunset was already making its way to the other side of the world. The beautiful sunset as we finally reached Cebu, though we still had some roads to drive through to actually arrive at our house, the trip was something to experience. Driven by Bogo, Danao, Catmon, Liloan, we finally reached the city. By the time we arrived at our house my older brother was waiting by the gate, and it was already midnight.
Though everyone and everything will change around you, even without noticing that you, yourself changed too. Or maybe that you were the one who didn't change. While the others moved on and proceeded in life. But someday you too have to change while growing up, to fit in. The trip was something that I would treasure as a memory that I experienced. Going through many municipalities in just almost 2 days, along with my family. Though we wanted to try some localities such as food, things were rushed as we had minimum time to spend. 3 years since then, though I have forgotten some of the parts, I hope this personal essay was something to your liking.
